Recently in South Texas, law enforcement reported that four of its own were let go for drug crimes. Allegedly, four officers violated the department's anti-drug policy and were terminated. A fifth officer chose to resign before getting let go.
Following an internal investigation, the department chose to fire the officers after it was discovered that they had used illegal drugs. The officers were notified of their terminations on Monday. The department reports that two of the police were sergeants, two were detention sergeants and one was a detention officer. Even though the officers were fired, they will not be charged.
Throughout the year 2011, the department issued 879 drug tests amongst its employees. On Monday, the executive staff underwent testing. Moving forward, the department says will continue to audit drug cases that the former officers worked on to ensure nothing was compromised.
